Police fire shots during car chase in Limassol

Date:

A car chase involving police gunfire occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Limassol, but the driver and passengers managed to escape. According to police, at around 2:30am, members of the Limassol Crime Prevention Unit (OPE) spotted a vehicle moving suspiciously with its lights off and at low speed.

Officers signalled the driver to stop, but the vehicle sped off, running red lights and prompting a pursuit. The chase ended in a dead-end street, where the driver attempted to ram the officers. In response, one officer fired several shots at the car’s front left tyre to prevent a collision.

Despite this, the driver managed to flee the scene. Limassol CID and traffic police are investigating the case.
