Police crackdown leads to 10 arrests

Police maintained a strong presence across Cyprus overnight, carrying out organised patrols at key locations in urban areas aimed at preventing serious crime, safeguarding public order and enhancing the public’s sense of security.

The preventive operations resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals for offences including illegal possession of drugs, unlawful stay in the Republic of Cyprus, begging and other offences.

As part of the operations, police stopped and checked 728 drivers and 305 passengers during the night. A further 64 inspections of business premises were carried out to tackle incidents of illegal activity, resulting in nine reports.

Traffic checks led to 227 reports for various traffic offences, while 13 cases of traffic-related violations are under investigation.

Among the offences recorded were 105 reports for speeding. Police also impounded 15 vehicles during the operations.

A total of 314 alcohol tests were conducted, resulting in 19 reports, while two drivers tested positive in preliminary drug tests.

Police said crime prevention and suppression operations continue on a daily basis through increased police presence, targeted inspections and immediate operational action, with the aim of improving public safety and maintaining public order.
