“They followed an unjust, unsupported, and pre-determined process against us,” says monk Nektarios.
He argues that the Synod reached its decision without presenting evidence, verifying facts, hearing a full apology, or allowing legal defense.
He also claims that Church officials announced the punishment before the trial even began, leaked information to the press, and shielded prosecution witnesses. At the same time, they ignored evidence and reports he submitted about financial issues involving other clergy.
Nektarios believes the trial, the appeal, and the entire procedure turned into a parody that violates Church rules and basic principles of justice. He rejects claims that the monks “infringe order” by simply speaking publicly or use social media, stressing that spiritual teaching is not an offense.
He further accuses Church authorities of avoiding serious transparency questions and argues that their stance harms the Church of Cyprus.
Finally, he stresses that the monks do not fear ultimatums, saying that civil courts will reveal the truth and that the public continues to support those who are wronged.
