Cyprus Police Press Office – Press Release: Payment of out-of-court fines related to traffic offences recorded by the photo enforcement system

The Police announce that a large number of out-of-court fines (Form GL 276A) related to traffic violations recorded by the Photo Enforcement System remain unclaimed by vehicle owners implicated in these offences.

These cases pertain to the period from 1 January 2022 to 30 September 2024, and vehicle owners are urged to check if their vehicle has been recorded by the Photo Enforcement System and to settle any outstanding fines.

Procedure for locating and paying Fines

  1. Checking for outstanding fines:
Vehicle owners can visit the website of the contractor company (www.cycamerasystem.com.cy) and enter:
    • The vehicle registration number; and either the identity card number, Alien Registration Certificate (ARC) number, or business/company registration number, as applicable.
Upon entering these details, they can:
    • Check if any out-of-court fines are outstanding against them;
    • See the total number of outstanding fines; and
    • View the reference number of each fine.
  2. Immediate payment:
If the individual wishes to pay immediately, they can visit the Police website (www.police.gov.cy) and follow the relevant procedure.
  3. Details of the violation:
To obtain details of the offence, individuals can call 80008009 during any working day between 08:00 and 17:00, where they will be provided with the fine reference number and access to information about the violation, available on the contractor’s website.
  4. Assistance:
The public can also call 80008009 for assistance with payment issues or difficulties entering their details.

Reporting another driver

If the registered vehicle owner finds that they were not driving the vehicle at the time of the offence, they are legally obliged to identify the driver. This can be done electronically on the designated website, avoiding bureaucratic procedures.

According to the Traffic Offences (use of photo enforcement devices and other related matters) Law (Law 55(I)/2001), the vehicle owner must provide the driver’s details through the appropriate submission. Failure to do so is a criminal offence under Article 21 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Law, Law 86/72.

Payment period and legal consequences

The payment period for outstanding fines will commence on 8 January 2025 and will continue until 31 March 2025.

If vehicle owners fail to settle any outstanding fines after this period, criminal cases will be initiated, and offenders will face prosecution without further delay.

This process does not apply to cases already filed before the courts.

Objectives of out-of-court settlements

The Police emphasise that out-of-court settlements aim to avoid criminal prosecution and to save valuable time for both the Police and the Courts. Vehicle owners are encouraged to act promptly to resolve any outstanding fines.
