PAOK fans crash: 7 victims identified, repatriation planned

Identification process completed

Authorities have completed the identification of all victims of the fatal road crash in Romania that claimed the lives of seven PAOK supporters. Three other people suffered injuries in the accident.

Questions remain over the causes and circumstances of the crash, which has shocked the public in Greece.

Repatriation set for Thursday

According to available information, Romanian authorities are expected to issue the necessary documents on Thursday, 29 January. This will allow the repatriation process of PAOK victims to begin.

The bodies will return to Greece on a military C-130 aircraft currently stationed in Elefsina. The aircraft remains on standby to also transport the injured passengers.

Condition of the injured

Two of the injured are in a condition that allows them to travel back to Greece. The third suffered more serious injuries but is not in life-threatening condition.

Doctors expect that the third injured person will require surgery. Authorities will decide whether the operation will take place in Romania or in Greece. All three have now overcome the immediate danger.

Youngest victims among the dead

Government official Giannis Loverdos confirmed the details in an interview with SKAI television. He noted that the oldest victim of the tragedy was 30 years old.

Investigators in Romania continue to examine evidence and testimonies to determine how the fatal crash occurred.
