Paleo Faliro mother testimony: contradictions before hearing

Date:

The Paleo Faliro mother testimony is set for Wednesday, as contradictions in her statements about the death of her 3-year-old daughter are drawing close scrutiny from investigators.

The 32-year-old Algerian woman, accused of killing her child, continues to claim the incident was an accident while being held at the Flisvos Port Authority.

According to ERT, she has offered conflicting accounts. To coast guard officers, she reportedly claimed that the girl “fell in the bath, hit her head, and when I lifted her, I realised she was probably dead. I put her swimsuit on and went down.”

She later added that “when we reached the beach, I carried her into the sea, walked as far as I could touch the bottom, and then let her go.” However, in an earlier statement to police, she said she entered the sea and left the child while she was still warm and with a heartbeat.

Her accounts of the final moments also differ: in one version she says she left her in deep water believing she was dead; in another, she claims she was trying to revive her but the child slipped from her hands.

The testimony of the girl’s two young siblings- currently in hospital under the care of doctors, nurses, and psychologists- may prove crucial to the case.
