Overnight highway closures until Thursday due to construction

Date:

Sections of the Nicosia–Limassol and Nicosia–Larnaca motorways will be closed due to overnight roadworks taking place from tonight, Monday 5 May, until the morning of Thursday 8 May. Police are urging drivers to exercise caution while travelling through affected areas.

On the Nicosia–Limassol motorway, works will take place at the junction with the motorway to Larnaca between Monday [05/05] and Wednesday [07/05], from 8:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following morning. During the works, all three lanes in the direction towards Limassol will be closed, and traffic will be diverted to the opposite side of the motorway (towards Nicosia), which will operate with two-way traffic.

The exit to Larnaca (A2 motorway) will also remain closed, with traffic being redirected through the Alambra exit.

According to the Department of Public Works, the purpose of these works is road resurfacing on the Nicosia–Limassol motorway.

Further works will also be carried out on the Nicosia–Limassol motorway between Governor’s Beach and Germasogeia from 9:00 p.m. on Monday [05/05] until 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 6 May. During this time, the right lane heading towards Limassol will be closed in stages, and traffic will be directed to the left lane.

These works are being carried out for cleaning of the central reservation, as announced by the Department of Public Works.

Additionally, the Limassol–Nicosia motorway near the Kalavasos bridge has been closed in the direction towards Nicosia since 30 January for repair and upgrade works on the bridge. Traffic from Limassol to Nicosia is being diverted to the opposite side of the motorway, which is operating with two-way traffic for both directions.

According to the Department of Public Works, these works are expected to be completed by 15 May.

Police are advising the public to drive with caution, reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and follow temporary road signs placed in the work zones.
