An orange weather warning for extremely high temperatures will come into effect at 12:00 on Wednesday, according to the Cyprus Department of Meteorology. The orange weather warning will remain in force until 17:00, with inland temperatures expected to reach 43°C.
Seasonal low pressure continues to affect the region.
Sunny conditions with intense heat
After early morning patches of local fog and low cloud clear, the weather will become mainly fine.
Winds will initially blow mainly from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening locally during the afternoon to 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to a little rough.
Temperatures will rise to:
- 43°C inland
- 33°C on the west coast
- Around 36°C along the remaining coastal areas
- 32°C in the higher mountains
The orange weather warning has been issued due to the exceptionally high inland temperatures.
Mild overnight temperatures
Tonight, conditions will remain mostly clear. During the early morning hours, patches of mist or fog and low cloud may develop in some areas.
Winds will remain mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea will stay slight to a little rough.
Temperatures are expected to fall to around:
- 24°C inland
- 24°C along the coast
- 21°C in the higher mountains
Cooler weather expected by the weekend
Thursday will remain mostly sunny.
On Friday and Saturday, the weather will continue to be mainly fine, although periods of increased local cloud are expected.
Temperatures on Thursday are not expected to change significantly. However, a gradual and noticeable drop is forecast for Friday and Saturday, bringing temperatures back close to the seasonal average.
