ON THIS DAY: Adolf Hitler Leads the Beer Hall Putsch (1923)

Date:

On November 8, 1923, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party attempted a coup known as the Beer Hall Putsch in Munich. This failed attempt to overthrow the Weimar Republic was a pivotal moment in Hitler’s rise to power. Alongside key Nazi leaders, Hitler stormed a Munich beer hall where Bavarian officials were meeting, hoping to incite a national revolution. However, the coup was quickly suppressed, and Hitler was arrested and sentenced to prison. Despite its failure, the Putsch provided Hitler with national exposure and time in prison to write Mein Kampf, solidifying his ideological foundation that would later propel him to power
