Nikos Logginos appointed National Civil Protection Coordinator

Government decision announced

President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, announced today the appointment of Chief Fire Officer Nikos Logginos as the National Civil Protection Coordinator during the Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace.

Strengthening civil protection

Addressing Cabinet members, the President highlighted the decision to enhance Cyprus’s civil protection framework according to European standards. He stated that the government will approve legislation establishing the National Civil Protection Mechanism and the role of the National Coordinator.

Ongoing reform since 2023

President Christodoulides reminded that a major reform of the civil protection sector began in 2023, aiming to restructure and reinforce the mechanism. He emphasised that the goal is to create an upgraded coordination framework among all relevant services under the National Coordinator for more effective crisis response.

Interim appointment

Until the legislation is passed by the House of Representatives, the government has decided to appoint Chief Fire Officer Nikos Logginos as National Civil Protection Coordinator.
