Nicosia streets flooded after heavy rainfall

Date:

Heavy rain hit parts of Nicosia at around 13:00 on Tuesday (6 October), shortly after a yellow weather warning issued by the Meteorological Service came into effect.

The strongest weather conditions affected the Archangelos and Engomi areas, with heavy rainfall lasting around 30 minutes.

Roads turn into rivers

Despite its relatively short duration, the intense rainfall was enough to cause problems on the roads.

Several areas were flooded, while large volumes of water turned sections of the road network into fast-flowing streams.

Video footage from the affected areas shows the amount of water that accumulated on the streets during the downpour.

The yellow warning remains in force, with the Meteorological Service warning of isolated strong thunderstorms, locally heavy rain and possible hail.
