Nicosia aims to improve accessibility for disabled citizens

Date:

The Municipality of Nicosia and the Cyprus Confederation of Disabled Organisations (KY.S.O.A.) have held talks to strengthen cooperation and take a holistic approach to improving accessibility for disabled citizens across the capital.

According to a KY.S.O.A. statement, the meeting took place on 25 August and was attended by President Themis Anthopoulou and Press Office Head Despina Roussou. Representing the municipality were Mayor Charalambos Prountzos and a team of officials from various departments and services.

During the meeting, both sides emphasised the importance of adopting a cross-sectoral mindset. This would allow for effective collaboration among all relevant stakeholders, helping to identify existing barriers, prioritise key issues, and design infrastructure projects and policies aimed at enhancing the everyday lives of people with disabilities.

The need for the development of practical digital tools was also discussed. These applications would improve mobility, increase safety, and offer better access to services for disabled citizens.
