New traffic camera fines now in effect: What drivers will pay

In a statement, the Police announced that from today, 6 March 2026, and without retroactive effect, following a decision taken yesterday by the Council of Ministers and published today in the Official Gazette of the Republic, the provisions of the legislation introducing changes to the out-of-court settlement of offences relating to running a red traffic light at camera-controlled junctions (Law 91(I)/2024) come into force.

In summary, the classification that applies from today for offences recorded by the Photo Enforcement System is set out below:

Violation of the mandatory stop line at camera-controlled junctions:
Out-of-court fine of €25.

Failure to comply with a red traffic light:

  • At a camera-controlled junction where there is a pedestrian crossing (vehicle entering the pedestrian crossing): out-of-court fine of €85 and 3 penalty points.
  • Where the vehicle enters a point beyond the pedestrian crossing: out-of-court fine of €300 and 3 penalty points.
  • Where the vehicle enters a point beyond the white mandatory stop line where there is no pedestrian crossing (vehicle entering the junction/intersection): out-of-court fine of €300 and 3 penalty points.

In addition, the public is informed that regarding the Photo Enforcement System and information relating to queries or disputes concerning:

  • possible commission of an offence
  • problems with payment of an out-of-court fine
  • information regarding the driver’s details at the time of the traffic offence
  • or other matters
