Police are investigating a suspected abduction and unlawful deprivation of liberty case after a 22-year-old student from Bangladesh went missing under concerning circumstances.
According to police, 22-year-old Shahruar Ahmed Emon, a resident of Oroklini, left his home on June 12, 2026, stating that he was going to his first day of work at a factory. However, he did not disclose the exact location where he was heading.
Based on information under examination, later that same evening, the missing student sent a message through a mobile application to a friend containing a specific location. No further communication followed.
Help message sent to family
Police said the young man’s father later received a message from his son’s mobile phone asking for help. Authorities added that there has been no further contact since then.
His mobile phone remains switched off, and relatives have been unable to reach him.
Police appeal for information
As part of the ongoing investigation, police released photographs of the 22-year-old in an effort to gather information that may assist in locating him.
Anyone with information that may help locate him is asked to contact Larnaca CID on 24-804096 or 24-804060, the Citizen’s Line on 1460, or the nearest police station.
