Applications have opened for the solar water grants scheme for 2026, the Management Committee of the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Energy Conservation Fund announced on Monday.
The application process will remain open until a total of 2,000 applications have been submitted across the scheme’s two categories.
The scheme provides grants for the installation or replacement of complete solar water heating systems, including a hot water cylinder and solar panels, provided the equipment meets the minimum technical requirements.
Certified installers and approved equipment required
According to the announcement, all installations must be carried out by certified installers listed in the Register of Participating Installers.
In addition, the equipment must be included in the Approved Equipment Register, where eligible products are pre-approved and assigned identification codes.
The committee said this process is designed to simplify implementation for applicants while reducing the risk of applications being rejected due to ineligible equipment.
Grant amounts
The grant available per application and per household is:
- €500 for the H1 General Category.
- €900 for homes located in mountainous and disadvantaged areas.
- €900 for the H2 Vulnerable Households category.
Pre-approval required before installation
The committee stressed that applicants must obtain pre-approval before any installation work begins.
Under the terms of the scheme, starting installation before receiving pre-approval will result in the application being rejected.
Alongside the launch of applications, the Management Committee also encouraged interested professionals to complete the necessary procedures to join the Register of Participating Installers.
