Authorities have confirmed a new case of foot-and-mouth disease in a goat and sheep unit in Dromolaxia. The affected facility houses 110 animals, and the detection was considered expected as it lies within a previously infected area. This brings the total confirmed cases in Cyprus to 42.
Inspection in Geri uncovers 23 cattle
Separately, veterinary authorities and the police conducted a raid on a property in Geri following a formal complaint. The inspection revealed 23 cattle, some marked and others unmarked, in a facility that was no longer operational.
Ongoing investigations
The Veterinary Services and police are investigating the Geri property to ensure all legal and biosecurity measures are applied. Authorities stress that control measures are crucial to prevent further spread of the disease across Cyprus.
