MYTHOS opens FANEROMENI ’26 with music and storytelling

Date:

The FANEROMENI festival of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation will open this year with a performance that combines storytelling, music and the power of oral tradition.

On Thursday, 18 June, the music-theatre production “MYTHOS – From Cyprus to the World” will invite audiences on a journey through myths, songs and stories that transcend places, eras and cultures.

Memory and Myth come to life on stage

The performance brings together two symbolic figures: Memory and Myth.

Soprano Mariza Anastasiadi takes on the role of Memory, while actor Petros Yiorkatzis embodies Myth. Through narration, song and performance, the two characters engage in a dialogue that explores the enduring power of storytelling.

The Concordia String Quartet will accompany the production, creating a rich artistic landscape that blends music with theatrical narration.

Inspired by Cyprus and the wider world

Drawing from Cypriot folk tradition as well as international mythology and musical repertoire, the performance creates a unified narrative journey.

From lullabies and family memories to stories of loss, transformation and survival, myths are presented not as relics of the past but as living narratives that continue to be passed from one generation to the next.

As the performance unfolds, stories change form, language and characters while preserving their essential purpose: helping people remember, tell stories and make sense of life’s experiences.

Celebrating cultural heritage

Through this artistic composition, memory is transformed into song, while song becomes a vessel of collective experience. The audience is guided towards a conclusion where loss evolves into acceptance and continuity.

The FANEROMENI festival launches its 2026 programme with a production that bridges Cypriot cultural heritage and universal narratives, highlighting the timeless role of myth as a means of communication, memory and identity.
