A new digital health tool will soon be available to citizens in Cyprus, with the myHealth@CY app expected to begin operating in November.
The application, which has been under development for some time, will be introduced in two phases, with the first stage becoming available in approximately three months.
Health providers and emergency button
During the first phase, users will be able to search for healthcare professionals and service providers using different criteria and filters.
The app will also indicate whether a provider is contracted with the General Healthcare System (GHS) or not.
Users will additionally be able to join health-related information categories, allowing them to receive updates and notifications on specific medical topics from official sources.
One of the key features will be the “Emergency Button”, which will allow users to immediately send their location to emergency response services through their mobile phone’s GPS function.
The aim is to help locate people in danger faster and reduce response times during emergencies.
Access to medical records abroad
The myHealth@CY app will also provide access to cross-border electronic health services.
Citizens will be able to view their “patient summary” and access electronic prescriptions issued by their doctors in countries participating in the relevant European health network.
The app will also allow users to add personal information, store health certificates and manage consent for healthcare professionals to access their medical data.
Notifications from the National Contact Point for eHealth services will also be available.
GHS integration planned for second phase
The full integration of GHS services into the myHealth@CY app will take place during the second phase.
Following the connection, beneficiaries will have access to their medical history, health profile and records of dependent family members.
Users will be able to view active referrals and prescriptions, manage consent for providers accessing their records and receive notifications regarding GHS services, approvals and prescriptions nearing expiry.
The application will also offer options to submit questions and complaints, view on-duty health centres, access GHS announcements and apply for registration or changes to a personal doctor.
Cyprus linked with 11 EU countries
Since May 2025, Cyprus has participated in the European Health Data Space infrastructure, allowing secure exchange of health information for cross-border healthcare.
Cypriot health data is currently connected with 11 countries: Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Croatia, Poland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Spain.
Checks and approvals are ongoing for connection with five additional countries.
Under European timelines, all EU member states must provide cross-border access to patient summaries, electronic prescriptions and prescription fulfilment services by 26 March 2029.
By 26 March 2031, citizens are expected to gain access through the platform to laboratory and imaging results, as well as discharge reports.
