Multiple arrests in thefts, arson across Cyprus

Police arrested a 36-year-old yesterday to aid probes into thefts and illegal possession of property. Investigating a January 2 electric tool theft in Limassol, testimony implicated him, securing a warrant for his midday detention.

A home search uncovered watches, electric tools, including the stolen one, and two trailers reported as stolen. Unsatisfactory explanations for possession led to re-arrest on-site for illegal holding and receiving stolen goods. He remains in custody.

Polemidia Station and Limassol Minor Offences Unit continue inquiries.

62-Year-Old detained in Paphos arson

Police also arrested a 62-year-old to facilitate investigation into a Sunday evening arson in Paphos. Around 20:00, fire erupted in his village vehicle, extinguished by a neighbor before firefighters arrived, causing extensive damage.

Scene examination yielded forensic evidence. Testimony against the owner prompted warrant-based arrest.

Eight arrests in nighttime crackdown

Overnight Sunday, intensified preventive operations with boosted urban presence netted eight arrests island-wide to preempt serious crimes and ensure order. Limassol saw three for thefts, one for illegal residence; Paphos one for arson, one for injury-causing incident; Larnaka two ADE/road unit for DUI.

Forty-two establishment checks yielded nine complaints on licenses and indoor smoking. Over 600 road checks produced 179 traffic fines, 36 alcohol DUIs, and 10 vehicle seizures for probes.

Operations persist in broad, escalating prevention with patrols, checks, and swift action across districts to curb crime and enhance safety.
