Mouflon rescue: Two males freed after horns became locked

Date:

A rare but critical mouflon rescue unfolded on Thursday in the Lefka area, where two male mouflons were found with their horns tightly entangled, unable to break free on their own. The animals were first detected by a UNPOL patrol, which immediately alerted the Game and Fauna Service.

Coordinated response leads to safe release

Game wardens and UNFICYP peacekeepers rushed to the scene. After locating the distressed animals, the teams worked together carefully and methodically to separate their locked horns. The mouflon rescue was completed without injuries, allowing the mouflons to return safely to their natural habitat.

Similar incident had a tragic outcome

According to information from authorities, the two mouflons were fortunate to have been found in time. In a recent comparable case, a citizen discovered two male mouflons dead near a natural spring. Evidence suggested they had fallen from a height while struggling to free themselves.
