Missing Israeli vessel found safely off Cyprus

Date:

The vessel that had gone missing and prompted a search and rescue operation by the JRCC has been located, with all occupants in good health. Four Israeli men aged 41, 40, 30 and 27 were on board.

According to information, the JRCC involved a research vessel operating within the Cypriot EEZ for the benefit of the Republic. This high-capability vessel, unaffected by weather conditions, succeeded in locating the sailboat.

The same sources report that the health of those on board is good. The vessel is currently heading towards the port of Haifa.

The information indicates that the vessel’s engine broke down, and the captain chose to proceed using sails. The captain stated that no assistance is needed.

The JRCC informed the Israeli authorities, who expect the vessel to arrive back in Israel in about one day, depending on weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Search and Rescue Centre at Israel’s Navigation and Ports Authority announced that it managed to establish communication with the missing vessel, contact with which had been lost after its departure from the port of Ashdod.
