Minor Arrested in Cyprus for Sending Threatening Emails About Explosives at Greek Airports

Date:

A minor in Cyprus has been identified by the Cyber Crime Division as the sender of emails on Sunday, January 1, 2024, falsely claiming explosives had been placed at all airports in Greece.

A case has been filed against the minor for threatening to commit a terrorist act, while the parents face charges for neglecting their duty to supervise the child.

According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), an urgent investigation traced the sender’s digital footprints to Cyprus. In collaboration with Cypriot authorities and using Europol and Eurojust communication channels via the International Police Cooperation Directorate, the minor was identified as the sender.

Authorities also located the family’s residence, where a search led to the seizure of a mobile phone, tablet, modem, and computer.

The case will be submitted to the relevant prosecutorial authority.
