The Republic of Cyprus is supporting security for European Council meetings in Brussels during the first half of 2026, as part of its Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Police deployment
The Cypriot Police announced the creation of a 13-member team from the Mobile Unit (MMAD), deployed to Brussels to strengthen security at EU Council facilities and other meeting venues.
On Thursday, the MMAD team provided security at the Informal Competitiveness Council meeting.
Full security participation
The team will participate in all security processes, including preparatory meetings, briefings, and throughout the duration of the events.
