A Cyprus-flagged cargo ship ran aground on a Norwegian shoreline and ended up in the garden of a residential home — just metres from the owner’s bedroom — in the early hours of Thursday.
The vessel, named NCL Salten, is 135 metres long and was operating with a crew of 16. It had been sailing through the Trondheim Fjord en route to Orkanger when it veered off course and struck land in the Byneset area.

A Norwegian overslept the arrival of a 135-meter cargo ship that parked at his house

The house’s occupant, Johan Helberg, was alerted by a neighbour who watched in shock as the massive ship ploughed toward the shore at speed.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Norwegian authorities are now investigating the cause of the incident. According to reports, the same vessel also ran aground in 2023, though on that occasion it managed to free itself.
The director of the chartering company NCL described the incident as “serious” and expressed relief that no one was hurt.
