Man dies after violent attack in Central Prisons

An inmate was found dead in the Cyprus Central Prisons on Saturday evening, 7 December 2025. According to initial information, the man appears to have been attacked by other persons inside the facility. He was subsequently transferred to hospital, where his death was confirmed.

Reports indicate that an incident and fight had taken place earlier within the prison premises.

30-year-old Greek Cypriot prisoner, in connection with the premeditated murder of a foreign heavy-sentenced prisoner. The suspect is expected to appear today before the Nicosia District Court for the issuance of a remand order.

The victim, a 36-year-old foreign national, appears to have suffered a brutal beating. He was serving a 16-year imprisonment sentence for the murder of his former girlfriend in a Nicosia flat.

A post-mortem examination scheduled for today is expected to determine the exact cause of death.

The case is being investigated as murder by the Nicosia CID.
