The redesign of parks in Limassol is set to transform 25 parks and squares across different neighbourhoods, with plans for more greenery, natural shade, upgraded children’s areas and new activities for different age groups.
More greenery and less hard surfacing
The project covers existing public spaces selected by Limassol Municipality for upgrading. The 25 parks have been divided into five geographical areas, with two architectural teams appointed through open procedures.
A preliminary study for Areas A, B and C was recently presented by Ioakeim-Loizas Ltd, opening a consultation with residents and other stakeholders.
One of the main priorities is to increase greenery. Existing trees are expected to be retained, while additional planting will be introduced.
The plans also propose more soft and permeable surfaces to improve water absorption and reduce the amount of hard surfacing currently found in some parks and squares.
Other proposed improvements include:
- more natural shade
- upgraded children’s play areas
- improved lighting
- durable, low-maintenance materials
New spaces for teenagers
The redesign also aims to provide spaces for teenagers, an age group whose needs are often not fully addressed in public park design.
The plans include the possibility of creating spaces for free artistic expression, where residents can take part in art and creative activities.
The approach would broaden the role of the parks beyond traditional playgrounds and green spaces, introducing facilities and activities for different age groups.

Residents involved in the planning
The final designs have not yet been completed. Public consultation with residents, particularly those living near the parks being upgraded, forms part of the process.
Residents and members of Limassol Municipal Council attended the presentation of the preliminary study. Their comments and suggestions have been recorded and will be considered during the next stage.
The presentation has been published on the Limassol Municipality website, while residents can continue submitting comments and suggestions by email.
Once the consultation is completed and the feedback reviewed, the final designs will determine the scope and content of the interventions in the parks covered by the relevant areas.
Armeftis: Parks should serve residents daily
Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis said the municipality wants the city’s parks to become spaces used by residents every day and to meet the needs of different age groups.
He highlighted the need for more greenery and shade, improved facilities for children, infrastructure and activities for young people, as well as spaces where residents can meet and spend time in their neighbourhoods.
He also stressed the importance of involving residents in the design process, saying their views and suggestions would help create public spaces that reflect the needs of each area.
