Police response to criticism in Sandy case
The Sandy case remains under active investigation in Cyprus, with the Police Spokesperson, Vyron Vyronos, responding to public criticism over the handling of recent developments linked to the high-profile complaint.
Speaking on a morning television programme, Vyronos said the police acted lawfully during search operations carried out under court-issued warrants and emphasised that the investigation is continuing “with the necessary seriousness and professionalism”.
He added that authorities are aware of the sensitivity of the case and stressed that all actions taken are based on judicial procedures and existing legal frameworks.
Investigation status and Europol cooperation
According to the police, the Sandy case is still at the evidence-gathering stage, with a large volume of material under review.
Vyronos confirmed that communication has already been established with Europol, to which selected exhibits have been forwarded, while additional material is expected to follow.
He noted that no conclusions can yet be drawn due to the complexity of the investigation and the ongoing assessment of testimonies and digital and documentary evidence.
Authorities have also stated that all relevant complaints and allegations are being examined as part of the broader investigative process, while safeguarding measures have been implemented where necessary.
Journalist account and separate reporting
Separately, journalist Stelios Orphanides, who has reported on aspects of the Sandy case, described his interactions with the complainant and his involvement in facilitating her relocation abroad for safety reasons.
In a commentary published in the Greek media, he referred to his experience working on the case and outlined concerns raised during his journalistic engagement with the allegations.
The report also references broader claims made by the complainant and the circumstances under which she reportedly left Cyprus.
Ongoing scrutiny of the Sandy case
The Sandy case has attracted significant public and institutional attention in Cyprus, with debate continuing in legal and political circles over the handling of sensitive allegations and the role of state institutions.
