Limassol: Drug investigation leads to seizure of 188 oil drums

Date:

A 49-year-old man was arrested by police in Limassol following a drug-related investigation that took an unexpected turn. Officers from the Limassol branch of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) conducted a court-authorised search of the suspect’s residence in Germasogeia, acting on intelligence regarding possession and distribution of narcotics.

Instead of drugs, authorities discovered 188 plastic drums- each with a capacity of 20 to 30 litres- containing diesel fuel. The containers were found in an open area and an outbuilding on the suspect’s property.

The man was unable to provide satisfactory documentation or explanation for the legal possession of the fuel and was arrested on the spot for unlawful possession of property. The seized items have been sent for examination, and the investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
