Strong expectations after successful year

The Larnaca tourism outlook for 2026 is shaping up positively for both the city and district, according to comments made to the Cyprus News Agency by the president of the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP).

ETAP President Dinos Levekaritis said the optimistic forecasts follow a successful programme of actions implemented during 2025, with a new action plan now ready to be rolled out alongside other ongoing initiatives.

Focus on quality, accessibility and authenticity

Levekaritis explained that the new plans aim to upgrade the area’s tourism profile, strengthen promotion efforts, enrich the tourism product and preserve the region’s authenticity- a defining characteristic of ETAP’s strategy.

He added that priorities for the coming year include improving accessibility to tourist sites, increasing green spaces, and developing tourism clusters. One example cited was the planned collaboration between nine beekeeping villages in mountainous Larnaca, designed to promote alternative and experiential tourism.

Addressing infrastructure and coastal challenges

ETAP will also focus on addressing coastal erosion affecting several beaches in the area, including Oroklini.

Additional priorities include accelerating road and infrastructure projects, tackling visual pollution, resolving issues involving the Department of Antiquities, and improving tourist access to public transport.

Cooperation with local authorities

Responding to questions on cooperation with local authorities, Levekaritis stressed that coordination with the Larnaca municipality and other local councils remains a core institutional role of ETAP. The organisation continues to act as a coordinating body between the public sector, local authorities, and all tourism stakeholders, with the aim of strengthening the area as a destination.

Events and rural promotion to continue

Levekaritis confirmed that actions and initiatives carried out last year with rural communities will continue throughout 2026, focusing on the promotion of mountainous areas on an equal footing with established tourist zones.

In cooperation with local authorities, organisations and community groups, events will continue to be organised, highlighting the unique characteristics of each community.

Conferences boost 2026 prospects

He also expressed confidence that 2026 will be another strong year for tourism, noting that Larnaca is expected to host several conferences in the context of Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Concluding his remarks, Levekaritis said current indicators for tourism in the city and district remain encouraging, reinforcing the positive Larnaca tourism outlook for the year ahead.
