Larnaca suitcase weapons discovered

Date:

A resident of Larnaca discovered Larnaca suitcase weapons in a travel bag previously owned by a deceased relative, police said on Wednesday. The man found the suitcase while sorting through personal belongings and immediately contacted authorities after realising what was inside.

According to preliminary information from the police, the suitcase contained a pistol, which the resident handed over straight away. During a further inspection carried out by officers, additional items were located.

Inside the bag, police found two hand grenades, explosive material, a detonator and 84 bullets. The discovery of these Larnaca suitcase weapons has prompted an investigation into how the items were obtained and why they were stored in the luggage.

The Larnaca CID is continuing examinations and is expected to determine whether the items are linked to any past incidents or if they were simply kept unlawfully by the deceased individual. No evidence currently suggests any wider threat to the public, authorities noted.
