Police in Larnaca are investigating an attempted robbery after an armed suspect attacked a 73-year-old jewellery shop owner in a violent incident early on Monday morning.
The attempted robbery in Larnaca took place around 09:00, with the suspect entering the store armed and attempting to carry out a robbery before being forced to flee.
Masked suspect posed as delivery worker
According to police information, the suspect wore a black long-sleeved shirt, a delivery company vest and a full-face motorcycle helmet to conceal his identity.
During the attempted robbery, he reportedly entered the jewellery store and pointed a firearm at the elderly owner.
Shop owner fought back and was injured
The 73-year-old owner reacted immediately, resisting the attacker and managing to push him outside the shop.
The suspect struck the victim on the head with the firearm during the struggle, causing a laceration injury.
Despite the attack, the owner managed to repel the suspect and prevent the robbery from being completed.
Escape by getaway vehicle
Following the failed robbery, the suspect fled the scene using a waiting vehicle driven by another unidentified individual, possibly a foreign national.
Police have launched investigations to identify both individuals involved.
Investigation ongoing
The scene was cordoned off by authorities, with the Larnaca CID continuing forensic examinations.
The victim was taken to hospital where his wound was stitched. He is expected to be discharged.
