Larnaca crash: Ukrainian motorcyclist loses battle for life

The Ukrainian motorcyclist critically injured in Friday’s crash with a lorry on the old Dromolaxia-Larnaca road has died, police confirmed late Friday.

28-year-old Artem Fomichov passes away

Artem Fomichov, 28, from Ukraine and a Larnaca resident, succumbed to his injuries at 23:30 at Nicosia General Hospital.

The Larnaca motorcycle crash happened around 07:15 Friday morning.

What happened

Fomichov rode a large-capacity motorcycle along Alkyonidon Street in Aradippou. The lorry driver, 67, from a Larnaca village, attempted a right turn onto the main road. The motorcycle struck the trailer side-on.

The impact caused critical injuries. Paramedics rushed Fomichov to Larnaca General Hospital for surgery on internal wounds. Doctors transferred him to Nicosia that evening.

The motorcycle sustained extensive damage. Officers found a helmet at the scene but could not confirm if Fomichov wore it. The lorry driver escaped unharmed.

Larnaca Traffic Police continue investigations.
