Customs Department officers at Larnaca Airport inspected the luggage of a 29-year-old Russian passenger with Israeli citizenship arriving from Russia via Armenia on December 18.
Large quantities of tobacco products and electronic/vaping cigarettes were found in his bags.
Specific items confiscated
Authorities seized 7 kg and 210 grams of shisha tobacco, 67 electronic cigarettes with and without flavored liquid, and 630ml of refill liquid for electronic cigarettes.
The passenger accepted an out-of-court settlement of €2,000. His shisha tobacco was returned after paying an additional €1,567 for duties, taxes, and failure to declare at customs.
The electronic cigarettes were confiscated and will undergo analysis before destruction.
Additional Agios Dometios case
On December 17, Customs at Agios Dometios checkpoint inspected a vehicle driven by an Israeli national, finding undeclared tobacco products without required health warnings in Greek and Turkish or traceability codes.
They seized 12 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 2 kg of rolling tobacco hidden in gift box packaging. The individual was arrested for summary offenses but released after accepting an out-of-court settlement.
