Kassianidou: Cyprus’ archaeological sites are being upgraded

Date:

Cyprus aims to upgrade the archaeological sites and improve the experience of visitors, Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, said in a speech at the 9th annual conference of the Archaeology Research Unit (ARU) of the University of Cyprus.

The Deputy Minister of Culture said that works for the construction of the Cyprus Archaeological Museum are continuing with intensive pace and the building “has begun to take shape”.

“One of our main goals is to upgrade our archaeological sites and improve the experience of visitors”, noted Kassianidou. As she said, the Department of Antiquities has already designed new digital guides for five archaeological sites, namely Nea Pafos, the Tombs of the Kings, Palaipafos, Kourion and Amathus. “By summer, printed signs will also be introduced, while this year we will continue with similar actions in Choirokitia, Kition and Idalion and we will continue with all the other archaeological sites”, she added.

Also, the Deputy Minister of Culture continued, “we are moving forward with improving the infrastructure in various locations – this year, our goal is to repair the pedestrian bridges of Chrysopolitissa, so that the area can be opened to the public again after many years.” At the same time, she said, “we are also promoting the renovation of the visitors’ area in Kourion.”
