Kapodistrian University tuition details have been announced for the new Cyprus branch of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA), which has now been officially registered in Nicosia following Cabinet approval.
Speaking at the launch, EKPA Rector Gerasimos Siasios described the Cyprus branch as a “landmark for higher education” in both Greece and Cyprus, and a new step forward in cross-border academic cooperation.
Eight academic programmes to open by 2026
The new campus will offer eight programmes in its first phase:
- Medicine
- Nursing
- Economics
- Management
- Port and Shipping Management
- Psychology
- English-language Classical Studies
- Primary Education
The Medical School will begin immediately, with the remaining departments launching in October 2026.
Most programmes will be based in Nicosia, with Psychology and Port & Shipping Management in Larnaca.
Kapodistrian University tuition model explained
Rector Siasios clarified that the Cyprus branch will operate with tuition fees, but stressed that the university remains a public institution with no profit motive.
“Kapodistrian University tuition will cover only operational costs. There is no intention of generating profit,” he said.
The fees are set as follows:
- €20,000 per year for Medicine
- €6,000 per year for all other programmes
According to university officials, these amounts are lower than most private institutions in Cyprus and Southeast Europe.
Admission standards and global ranking
Admission to Greek-language programmes will require:
- A high school diploma with a minimum grade of 18
- Participation in the Pan-Cyprian exams
- At least 18 in one subject
- A personal interview
Early application interest has already begun, with Siasios noting strong candidates so far.
He also emphasised that EKPA is ranked first in Southeastern Europe and among the top 300 universities globally, giving Cypriot students the chance to access internationally recognised education without leaving the country.
