Journalist Soula Hadjikyriakou passed away after a 23-year battle with cancer. Born in Nicosia, she studied History, Law, and English Literature at the University of London.

She also pursued studies in journalism and political science at Georgia State University, where she was a Fulbright scholar. Additionally, she received training at CNN and Radio Netherlands.
She began her career as a journalist at ERT, where she worked for three years, and later joined CyBC (RIK), eventually becoming Deputy Director of News and Current Affairs.
“Beyond my editorial responsibilities in both television and radio, I engaged in research and produced several of my own documentaries on the coup, the invasion, missing persons, those trapped, and generally anything related to the recent history of our country.
I visited Famagusta before the checkpoints opened and aired scenes from the area, including exclusive footage from the closed-off city.
I also filmed documentaries on places I visited as part of journalistic assignments, such as Istanbul, China, South Africa, and Cuba. As a political correspondent, I covered multiple rounds of talks on the Cyprus issue, the country’s accession process, international conferences, European Councils, and UN General Assemblies. I secured exclusive interviews with prominent figures and politicians, including former Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül, Fidel Castro, and Noam Chomsky.”
She served as a board member of the Nicosia Film Club and later as President of the Cyprus Film Movement. She participated in bicommunal organisations advocating for a federal solution to the Cyprus issue and was a board member of OPEK. She was also a member of the Technical Committee on Gender Equality.
