Israeli strike targets Basij leadership
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced Tuesday that it killed Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Basij volunteer paramilitary force, in a “precise strike in Tehran.” The IDF said Soleimani, holding a rank equivalent to brigadier general, led the Basij unit for six years, overseeing operations that included violent crackdowns on civilian protests.
Basij units linked to IRGC
The Basij militia, part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been responsible for suppressing opposition protests in Iran, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries before the current conflict. Israel has carried out multiple precision strikes on Basij targets, with reports suggesting nearly 300 commanders and officials were killed in Monday night strikes alone.
New tactics amid Israeli targeting
Social media posts indicate that Basij and IRGC units have started using schools and kindergartens as temporary hideouts to avoid Israeli airstrikes. Videos reportedly show children alongside their fathers at security checkpoints, raising concerns about the use of minors for propaganda and militarised purposes.
🚨The Islamic regime has reportedly evacuated many of its Basij and military bases and relocated personnel into schools and mosques.

Next targets and ongoing conflict
The IDF and Israeli forces continue their campaign against the Iranian security apparatus. Reports suggest Ahmad Reza Radan, commander-in-chief of Iran’s Police Command, may be the next top target. The campaign aims to weaken the regime’s security forces that have been involved in suppressing protests and opposition activity across Iran.
