Israel launches new attacks on Tehran and Beirut

Date:

Israel-Hezbollah strikes intensified on Tuesday as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it launched simultaneous attacks on military targets in Tehran and Beirut.

The IDF said it carried out targeted strikes in the Iranian and Lebanese capitals, describing them as part of a wider wave of “extensive airstrikes”.

Hezbollah claims attacks on Israeli bases

Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group, said it attacked three Israeli military sites “in response to the criminal Israeli aggression that targeted dozens of Lebanese cities and towns”.

In separate statements on Telegram, Hezbollah claimed it struck the Nafah base in the Golan Heights with a large missile salvo, and targeted the Meron and Ramat David air bases in northern Israel using drones.

The Israeli military has not commented on the reported attacks.

Explosions reported in Tehran and Beirut

Loud explosions were reported in Tehran, according to AFP, as black smoke rose above Beirut’s southern suburbs following the latest Israeli strikes.

The IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, said a wave of extensive airstrikes was under way, after issuing urgent evacuation warnings to residents in parts of Beirut and dozens of villages. The military said it targeted command centres and storage facilities linked to Hezbollah.

US embassies affected amid widening conflict

The US embassy in Kuwait closed “until further notice”, citing ongoing regional tensions. All regular and emergency consular appointments were cancelled.

Earlier, two drones struck the US embassy in Riyadh, causing what Saudi authorities described as a limited fire.

Iranian state media reported that a command and staff building at a US air base in Bahrain had been destroyed, while footage circulated by outlets affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps appeared to show rocket impacts. The US has not confirmed the reported strike.

Escalating rhetoric from Washington

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said “the hardest hits are yet to come” from the US military on Iran. He spoke after President Donald Trump described recent strikes as “the last, best chance” to eliminate threats from Tehran.

In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States had a virtually unlimited supply of certain munitions and stood ready to continue military operations if required.

Six US service members have been killed since the conflict began. Three US fighter jets were shot down in Kuwait in what officials described as an apparent friendly fire incident, though the crews survived.

Uncertainty over next phase

An Iranian official has threatened to “set fire” to any ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.

As the fourth day of the US-Israeli war with Iran unfolds, analysts warn that it remains far too early to predict how or when the conflict will end.
