Israel admits to assassinating Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh

Date:

The Israeli Defence Minister admitted today that Israel assassinated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh last July in Tehran.

At the same time, Israel Katz issued a direct threat to the leadership of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen – who have threatened to continue their attacks on Israel – warning they would face the same fate.

“We will strike strategic Houthi infrastructure and decapitate their leadership, just as we did with Haniyeh, Sinwar (Hamas), and Nasrallah (Hezbollah) in Tehran, Gaza, and Lebanon,” Katz said during an event at the Israeli Ministry of Defence.

This marks the first public admission that Israel was behind Haniyeh’s assassination in the Iranian capital.
