IRGC commander Majid Khademi killed in Israeli strikes

Date:

Majid Khademi, a senior official in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) who had accused Donald Trump of inciting anti-government protests, was killed in Israeli airstrikes, the latest high-ranking Tehran figure to die since the US–Israel war against the Islamic Republic began on 28 February.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Khademi, one of the top three commanders in the IRGC, was killed along with another senior officer in night strikes. “Khademi was one of the highest-ranking IRGC commanders with extensive experience,” the IDF said in a post on X.

Other senior deaths reported

Israel also announced the death of Yazdan Mir, known as Sardar Bagheri, head of the secret Unit 840 of the Quds Force. Reports indicate at least 25 people were killed in overnight strikes in Iran, following Trump’s threat to turn Iran into a “hell” if it did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian response

The IRGC confirmed Khademi’s death, describing him as a “strong and educated” head of their Intelligence Organisation who “martyred in a criminal terrorist attack by the US-Zionist enemy… early this morning.”

Khademi’s career

Khademi replaced his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, in 2025 after Kazemi was killed during the 12-day Iran–Israel war. He had decades of experience in intelligence and counterintelligence, rising through the ranks of Iran’s security services.

Since 2022, he had led the IRGC Intelligence Protection Organisation, responsible for internal surveillance and counterintelligence, while holding senior roles in Iran’s Ministry of Defence.

Strategic role of IRGC intelligence

The IRGC’s intelligence branch is one of Iran’s most powerful security mechanisms, playing a central role in internal monitoring to counter foreign influence and operating alongside the political Ministry of Intelligence.
