Iran war escalation sparks energy crisis fears

Date:

Strikes reported in Tehran and northwest Iran

The Iran war intensified early Monday, with multiple explosions reported in Tehran. The escalation of the Iran war has continued to fuel fears of an energy crisis.

The Israeli military announced it had launched a “wave of large-scale strikes” targeting infrastructure linked to the Iranian regime, without providing further details.

According to Iranian state media, an airstrike hit residential buildings in the northwestern city of Urmia, causing collapses and trapping residents under the rubble. Search and rescue teams are currently operating in the area.

Tensions rise over Strait of Hormuz

At the same time, a reported ultimatum set by Donald Trump to Tehran is due to expire early Tuesday (Cyprus time), calling for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz- a critical route for global hydrocarbon supplies.

Iran’s military warned it may proceed with a full closure of the strait if the United States follows through on threats to strike the country’s energy infrastructure.

Missile incident in Saudi Arabia

Amid the escalating situation, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence said two ballistic missiles were launched towards Riyadh.

One was intercepted by air defence systems, while the second fell in an uninhabited area.

Global energy crisis warning

As the conflict deepens, concerns are mounting over its global economic impact.

The head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, warned that “no country” would remain unaffected by the consequences of a potential global energy crisis stemming from the Iran war.

“No country will be immune from the consequences of this crisis if it continues on this path. Therefore, action on a global scale is essential,” he said during remarks from Canberra.
