Iran-US talks clouded by conflicting claims

Date:

Tehran denies negotiations despite proposal review

Iran-US talks remain uncertain as Tehran insists it is not engaged in negotiations with the United States, even while confirming it is reviewing a US ceasefire proposal delivered via Pakistan.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other officials have reiterated that no active dialogue is taking place, rejecting Washington’s claims and framing the situation as a unilateral US attempt to manage the crisis.

Trump claims Iran seeks agreement

The situation became more complicated following comments by US President Donald Trump, who stated that Iran is “desperate” to reach a deal and that its leaders are effectively “begging” for a way out, even if they are reluctant to admit it publicly.

Contradictory narratives deepen uncertainty

These opposing narratives highlight a deep contradiction. While Washington portrays Tehran as ready for an agreement, Iran publicly denies any negotiations are taking place.

This divergence raises questions about whether backchannel communication exists or whether both sides are engaged in a broader political and psychological strategy.

Regional dimension of any agreement

According to sources cited by Reuters, Iran has made clear through intermediaries that any de-escalation deal must extend beyond its own territory. Tehran insists that any agreement must also include Lebanon, effectively requiring an end to Israeli operations against Hezbollah.

This stance suggests Iran views the conflict as a unified regional front rather than an isolated confrontation.
