Iran strikes Kurdish groups in Iraq, launches attacks on Israel

Date:

Iranian forces have launched operations targeting Kurdish groups in their semi-autonomous region of Iraq, coinciding with the 19th wave of missile and drone attacks against Israeli and US assets, as the sixth day of the regional war continues.

Strikes on Kurdish groups

Iran’s Press TV reported that military forces targeted “anti-Iran separatist forces,” while the Intelligence Ministry confirmed attacks on posts of separatist groups attempting to enter from western borders, claiming heavy losses. The statement emphasised cooperation with “noble Kurds” to thwart what Iran called an “Israeli-American” plan against Iranian soil.

Explosions were recorded over Sulaimaniyah province in northern Iraq, with local media reporting at least four blasts near Arabat, Zarkuiz, and Surdash. The attacks reportedly targeted the headquarters of the Kurdistan Toilers Association (Komala), an Iranian Kurdish armed group based in Iraq.

US-Israel involvement

Reports suggest Iranian Kurdish groups consulted with the US about potential operations against Iran’s western security forces. The coalition has been training along the Iran-Iraq border to weaken Iranian military capabilities.

Iran denied any Kurdish fighters have crossed into its territory from Iraq.

Missile and drone attacks continue

Simultaneously, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out further missile and drone attacks on US and Israeli targets. Israel intercepted two drones over western Galilee, while Saudi Arabia intercepted three, and Qatar evacuated homes near the US Embassy in Doha.

Explosions shake Iranian cities

US and Israeli strikes continue across Iran, affecting Tehran and Kurdish cities including Sanandaj, Saqqez, and Bukan. Israeli forces reported destroying a ballistic missile platform in Qom, while US CENTCOM stated it aimed to “eliminate” Iran’s mobile missile capabilities.

Iranian air defences have been activated in response. Journalists in Tehran reported massive blasts and shockwaves, with residents evacuating the capital amid fears of further attacks.

Over 150 cities in Iran have reportedly been affected since the start of the conflict, with many citizens leaving Tehran for safety.
