Wardens accuse internal corruption
ISOTITA Union has raised concerns about internal corruption within the Game and Fauna Service following the arson of two service vehicles in Evrychou and a warden’s vehicle in Paphos last week.
Alleged insider assistance for criminals
The Union stated that criminals and poachers act without fear, allegedly receiving information from corrupt insiders within the Service.
Call for citizen and management cooperation
ISOTITA Union urges citizens with any information regarding the perpetrators to report it to authorities, even anonymously. It stressed that “offenders do not burn metal – they burn the shield protecting Cyprus’ nature” and called on all relevant parties, particularly the Game and Fauna Service management, to collaborate with frontline staff to tackle attacks against them.
Police role and leadership responsibility
While acknowledging the police’s role in investigating the crimes, the Union emphasised that the Head of the Game and Fauna Service must tackle internal corruption. “We expect to see your actions against organised crime first before we follow your lead,” the Union said, warning that secrecy and closed-door practices will not solve problems.
Support for frontline wardens
The Union reassured wardens that ISOTITA remains their protective shield, advocating for the security and dignity they deserve on the frontlines.
