Citizens will be able to choose whether their parents’ full names are included on new biometric IDs once a technical update to the issuing system is completed, the Ministry of Interior said.
The adjustment is expected to be completed within two months and no later than the end of November.
The Population Archive Directorate said it remains in contact with the company responsible for the system following decisions announced on 31 July 2026 on the new biometric identities.
Technical changes underway
The decision follows objections and concerns raised by some citizens, as well as positions expressed by political parties over the absence of parents’ full names from the new IDs.
The Interior Minister was informed in mid-September that the contractor had already begun the technical work needed to allow citizens to choose whether their parents’ names appear on their biometric IDs.
According to the company’s information, the adjustment is expected to be completed within two months, with the latest deadline set for the end of November.
Existing IDs can be replaced free of charge
Citizens who have already received an ID without their parents’ full names will also be able to request a replacement once the system update is complete.
Those who want their parents’ names included will be able to present their existing ID at Citizens Service Centres, Citizen Centres or District Administrations.
The replacement will be carried out free of charge.
The Ministry of Interior said it will issue a further update immediately after the technical adjustment is completed, providing details on the replacement process for existing biometric IDs.
