Hulusi Akar warns Cyprus: “This will be your last Easter”

Date:

Former Turkish Defence Minister and current head of the Defence Committee in the Turkish Parliament, Hulusi Akar, made highly provocative statements targeting Cyprus, with an explicitly threatening tone.

Threatening social media post

Akar posted on social media: “For those dreaming of Easter in the homeland of Turkish Cypriots… this will be your last Easter!” This unprecedented warning from a senior Turkish official was accompanied by the song Tanrı’nın Ordusu by Ali Kınık, which celebrates Turkish identity, sacrifice, and faith.

The song portrays a “holy army” on a historical and divine mission, highlighting the idea of a nation that regenerates through adversity, refuses subjugation, and sees itself as part of a larger purpose.

Recent statements on Cyprus sovereignty

On April 2, Akar stated that Cyprus is not a Greek island and described the existence of two sovereign and equal states on the island as inevitable.

He has repeatedly stressed that the security of the illegitimate “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” is an uncompromising priority for Turkey, with no concessions to be made in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Through his social media posts and statements, Akar sent a direct message to “those dreaming of the island,” emphasising Turkish military presence and readiness. He added sharply: “The Mehmetçik are here and waiting,” warning that “those who cannot swim should not come.”’
