How much watermelon is consumed in Cyprus each year?

Cyprus produces around 13,000 tonnes of watermelons every year, according to figures published by the Statistical Service on Instagram.

The average annual per capita consumption stands at 14.8 kilograms, while the average producer price was recorded at €342 per tonne, or €0.34 per kilogram.

The average value of watermelon production in Cyprus reaches approximately €4.5 million annually.

Limited export activity

Regarding international trade, watermelon exports between 2022 and 2025 averaged just 13 tonnes per year.

Imports, meanwhile, were significantly higher, reaching around 500 tonnes annually during the same period.

The figures highlight the strong domestic role of watermelons, with most production directed towards the local market.
