UN envoy to convene talks between leaders

The UN Personal Envoy María Angela Holguín will convene a UN Cyprus meeting on January 28, 2026, bringing together President Nicos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman, the United Nations announced in Cyprus.

Preparatory meetings with leaders and negotiators

Holguín, who will be in Cyprus from January 26 to 29, will hold separate meetings with Christodoulides and Erhürman on January 27. On January 26, she will meet with negotiators from both sides to prepare for the joint discussions.

EU engagement prior to Cyprus visit

According to a statement by the UN spokesperson in Cyprus, Holguín recently visited Brussels, meeting with EU High Representative Kaya Kallas. She will then travel to Cyprus to continue her mediation efforts, including the meetings with negotiators and leaders.

Continuation of previous talks

The joint meeting between Christodoulides and Erhürman on January 28 will follow up on discussions held on December 11, 2025, as part of ongoing UN-led efforts to advance dialogue between the two communities.
