Hitchhike horror in Chania leads to arrests

Date:

A hitchhike horror in Chania unfolded late Friday night, when a young Cretan man picked up three female students before launching into a reckless high-speed chase that ended in his arrest.

According to reports, the young man was driving a luxury BMW when he stopped for the students, who were hitchhiking in the area. Once inside, the women quickly realised something was wrong: the driver refused to let them exit the vehicle and began speeding dangerously through the city, performing erratic manoeuvres.

Terrified, the students called the emergency number 112, reporting that they were being held in the car against their will. Police forces- including DIAS motorcycle units and patrol cars- were immediately deployed to intercept the vehicle.

Two of the women managed to escape by jumping out when the car briefly stopped at a traffic light. The third remained trapped as the chase continued. The driver reportedly attempted to ram police motorbikes and ultimately collided with a patrol car.

Adding to the alarm, the man had earlier posted videos on social media showing himself speeding and performing dangerous stunts. His profile also featured photos of guns and pistols.

After the crash, the young man called his father to the scene. Shockingly, the father also became involved, colliding with another police vehicle. Both were arrested and now face serious charges, including attempted multiple homicide.

Police sources state that the driver had no prior run-ins with the law, making this hitchhike horror in Chania all the more shocking.
