Heavy rain affects traffic on roads in the Famagusta district

The police are advising caution for those travelling on the road network.

The heavy rain occurring around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Famagusta district is affecting traffic on the road network due to water accumulation on various roads in the district. The roads are slippery, and visibility is limited because of the rain.

Specifically, water accumulation has been observed on the following roads:

  • Larnaca – Ayia Napa motorway, near Sotira
  • Paralimni – Sotira road
  • Paralimni – Ayia Napa road
  • In Paralimni: 1st April Street, Stadiou Street, Agios Thomas Street, and Vrysoudion Street
  • In Ayia Napa: Nissi Avenue towards Makronissos

The police urge drivers to exercise particular caution. Drivers are advised to drive their vehicles at a safe, low speed, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and keep their headlights on.

In other districts, there are no notable problems on the road network. However, due to the rainfall across Cyprus over the past 24 hours, drivers are advised to be cautious, as road surfaces may be slippery in various locations.
